Careful, using boost AND physics in a game hasn't worked too well in the past. I think the player should have fun obtaining his speed, instead of starting with it. Maybe the player him/herself could change the character's variables such as speed and acceleration within a text-based file in the stage folder. It has worked well in the past, and the player would be able to judge the player's abilities for their stage's suiting. There would be limits, of course. That doesn't sound bad, I like that idea. Giving the player the option of how the stage should be played like to their style. Sounds great. It be great to have an option that catered to both sides of the spectrum. I'd personally like an option that allowed you to choose whether you want Spindash, Boost, or both. Hell, you could even go with the regular Roll without the Spindash, if you so chose.

That sounds just fine. It crossed my mind to have a physics xml file which the player could edit.
I also considered making a small editor which lets you create a save file containing the physics of your game, but cannot be edited afterward so that players must use the physics file you released with the game, which would prevent cheating. But people will learn how to hack the file eventually, so I think that may be pointless. And when you consider how many people might actually create a full-featured game, it again becomes pointless.
So a xml file would be perfect. Freerunner Engine 1.3 has a new xml in it which lets you edit the keyframes of the character animation, which is useful for adding a custom character. It should be a cakewalk to make one for physics.
