Blitz Sonic died because we voluntarily killed it. If you want to make your own engines then by all means do so, but the idea of messing around with Blitz 3D in 2014 is questionable to say the least. Especially when Unity and Unreal Development Kit are both free and Blitz 3D is for cash money. I understand a lot of you don't want to use Unity because you're not familiar with it but you can do way more with it. The reason this forum has no real activity is because no one wants to contribute to it, especially if I just wanted to make custom stages, why not Generations? If you don't like the boost gameplay and want to focus on platforming you can easily slow Sonic down and weaken his boost if you like within the mod. That also brings up another point. If I make a mod in Generations I know everyone will be playing it with the same engine. Not with Blitz, no way. There will be people playing it on Blitz Sonic Ultra, BGE, LS5E2, what have you. There is no one supreme Blitz engine, they are all flawed in their own way. Heck, even if there was one Blitz engine, look at how GDK is doing. You guys can still stick with Blitz, and some cool games have been done in it like SCP – Containment Breach. It's just a lot of us don't think it's worth it anymore.

BlitzSonic was just a simple engine coding program left incomplete a long time ago, still some people can find it and complete it. Either way, instead of making a 10/10 engine with UDK or Unity (well, I have a little project with Unity but...), I still pick B3D to still make more possible stuff and new stuff in it. Now talking about making engines, My engine is a complicated thing (YEAH FUCK BLITZSONIC BLUE RUNNER!1111!!!!), now I've learned something: Don't fucking code more than 40 objects in one Objects.bb if you don't want to be like 3 or more months finding out what was that Field SonicBeingFuckingHurted addition to 10 objects. Now guys *sniff* please don't follow my steps .

Granted S-generations is a bit taxing on the memory and drive space more then blitzsonic, tools included. can't over look the smaller thing's in life.....pancake's or waffle's.

No doubt Blitz 3D is light weight. In comparison UDK really needs to go to the gym. I guess I just prefer waffles though. F***ing pancakes. Pass the butter. Waffles. Pass the maple syrup bro.

A mass project with a newer engine won't happen. I tend to agree that Blitz3D is old news and that learning UDK or Unity is better. However Blitz3D has one thing going for it that the other engines do not - quick and easy results.
Both Unity and UDK require learning a complex high-level language like C or Java for their scripting. Plus there's the complicated interface that you have to learn for loading models and creating objects. The learning curve is simply too high, and it takes too long to see results which turns people away from it once they begin a project.
The appeal of Blitz3D is that you can write a few lines of code and see your results instantly. Additionally, the language is incredibly simple which makes it possible for anyone to learn.
While I support the idea of a UDK project, the fact of the matter is nobody is going to stick to it unless they can see progress quickly. People have lives and things to do, and we can't all be arsed to sit here 4 hours a day, every day for a week writing code just to change a single texture or to make an object move! People will walk away!
So when it comes to a 3D Sonic fan game, I support Blitz3D as the engine behind it. Do I think Blitz Sonic engine should be the base? I don't know. But we would get farther writing a game engine from scratch in Blitz3D than we would in UDK that's for sure.
That was my 2 cents as far as starting a group project.
If another mass effort to improve BlitzSonic doesn't happen, I would propose everyone share and document bits and pieces of code you've written for the BlitzSonic engine for others to use. I know you might think your code will get "stolen" or you won't get credit, but how many times do you credit Damizean and Mark the Echidna? I think if you want to keep the BlitzSonic engine alive you should share what you have created so others can learn from it, and possibly improve upon it and make progress. Its why I included the source code for Freerunner engine at SAGE 2012. I don't care who uses it and I don't care about getting credited, at least the project will still be useful to someone rather than collecting dust on my hard drive.
I will offer this advice if you would like to start a mass BlitzSonic project: Start from a vanilla version. One that nobody has messed with yet so that you will know what has been changed or added. Many BlitzSonic engines have code that's not written very well or is incredibly messy and difficult to read and modify. Start fresh! And tell everyone who contributes to the source code to write their own individual change log!

Please, no more of this "ORIGINAL GENERATIONS RIP DO NOT STEAL" packed into the exe triggering it as a virus. That and I will never understand what it is with a lot of these coders worrying about their stuff being stolen. First off, if you're a coder making mods, get used to it, it's a part of the deal. Whenever I have a model or anything polished enough for release, I give it out no second thoughts. Problem is I kind of have a perfectionist attitude so even when I release something, I take it down soon after or never end up with something I call worthy of letting out even if it really is good and I regret deleting it days after. Personally, I'm not the most experienced person coding but I'd honestly like seeing people taking my models, rigs, animations, and such making something cool out of it.

I don't know about the future of blitz sonic... Ozcrash's engine is ok but he is probably going to turn it to a game one day and DBZfan's engine feels uncompleted and glitchy, so there isn't much going on. 3Dsawnikku has found a way to fix the flickering if you move too much away from the spawn point and some other stuff, so I guess that Blitz Sonic could work on modern stuff. One of the big problems of Blitz Sonic was that the basic engine is outdated/doesn't work well and all mods are closed source(I can understand that), which doesn't give a good base if anyone wanted to continue it. My engine has been forgotten in time, even saying that I would not cancel it until I make a release or more. I don't think in cancelling my engine yet and its still incomplete because cleaning has me to hell in time. The truth guys is that BlitzSonic will not upgrade to new stuff if someone isn't there to make it happen, and for now BlitzSonic hasn't received any decent major change since 2009, and Sonic World is not an exception. Really, BlitzSonic has an infinity of space to create something new, it's just there's no one there to make it happen.

I just stopped because I wasn't interested in it anymore. I've lost interest in animation as a career, and I feel art in general as a career will be out of the picture for me. Being from a family of professional level artists, I can say I'm kind of distraught.

I recently changed my major to Computer imformation technology for a .net program, my parents wanted me to get an associate degree in Pharmacy Tech, but the medical field is sooooooooooo boring, I start my cit classes in the fall.

Chin up lad's and laddette's It doe's take time but eventually any of ya'll can get in the field of your choice. as for my engine my main focus is the object tool's and so for I am bloody loving them....real time placement I dig it.
in due time though peep's I gotta do this earthworm jim thingy first then i'll get right back into it...cool
sidenote the engine is indeed being built from the ground up and should be flexible enough to allow any 3rd party source code to be added relatively simple.
