I remember late 2011 people said they where moving to Unity because it's less restrictive. Is this still a thing?

No, nobody's into it now. I've been learning lots of C# though so if I were to make a Sonic engine it would be in XNA. Easier to develop and better online multiplayer. I'll probably never get to it though. I don't exactly find game programming fun.

Well maybe eventually we will get an engine that is perfect but that will never happen but wasn't there an engine in the works from sonic retro the mobius engine

I'll probably never get to it though. I don't exactly find game programming fun. To be honest, I can't believe I even said that. I never even got remotely far into learning C# and XNA sucks. Even Microsoft abandoned it in favor of pushing Unity on Xbox One. Right now people are just messing around with different engines being made in both Unity and Unreal Engine 4. None of them are really completed yet and at this point they're mainly just quick prototypes.

It would be nice to Move to Unity, however in this case we won't call it *Blitz Sonic*, UnitySonic fits I've seen Gistix and other guys working on some Sonic games already .
