I'm working on a game right now, to go with my Computer Programming class in school. I just wanted to pitch the idea to you guys, see what you think.
It's a sidescroller, 2D, with a pixelated art style (using sprites). It has sort of a steampunk-meets-technology theme, which I think I'm doing a relatively good job of pulling off.
The gameplay (as I plan it to be at the moment) will be a survival (maybe wave-based?) co-operative, fast-paced, arcade styled, beat-em'-up-meets-shooter. I plan to constantly update it, adding new content (such as enemies, maps, weapons, items, etc.). I know it sounds really far-fetched but I have a lot of plans to make it balance out.
I plan to add a LOT of customization options, so that every player can distinguish themselves in a way that they want to, and not the way a game limits them. Community-driven (if I can ever get one) is a good way to go, so that people are generally happy.
Now my biggest question to you guys... Would you pay money for a game like that? Possibly donations? Who knows. My biggest concern upon bringing what I have now to a releasable state is whether or not I should charge any money for the game or not. I pondered on having a free-to-play model with some sort of real cash transactions, but I feel that it's being done way too much. I really love doing this, and would definitely like a way to earn money from it to help in the progression of development. (Don't look at this from a "OH YEAH, MAKE IT FREE SO I CAN BE CHEAP AND DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANY MONEY" perspective. Look at it as if it were a game already being charged for. If it was promising, would you buy it?)
I'll try and get a video up of it A.S.A.P., but I just wanted to share it here first. What do you guys think?
