Well first you export the project from max into .3ds put that file into the stage's folder change the code in the stage.xml so that it says the file's name with .3ds at the back
also, unless this is a completely 2.5D level, I making the lava sections leveled or put some walls around it since it wouldn't make sense for a plane of lava floating in the air

Yeah, I did exactly that and I got a message. I've got the lava planned out. The above ground sections are all on top of a rather thin cliff, the lava tumbling off in a waterfall-like manner. There's quite a bit of 3D platforming over the lava, it's just modelled so it looks just like the original in 2D view

Ehh, most of that level design revolves around moving platforms, which BSU can't do :/ (Or so I'm told, anyway)

also if you was going to make it 3d you have not made it straight/linear like sonic 1. Could have did what SEGA did to green hill in SA2 you know. C:3

I've been considering that but I'm not sure how I'd adapt it. I think I may make it turn a corner towards the end, and make the underground section slightly more complex.

I feel like instead of just a line, you could probably expand the environment a bit more on both sides of the line, so that it has that "Fresh" feeling.

Starting on the underground section. (Very WIP) I've thought about what I could do in this part to make it more 3D. When he goes down another level, I'll shift everything into the foreground slightly so he is below & in front of the first underground part. Following that, the part with the small blocks over the lava will be after a sharp turn left, with walls at both sides so it feels almost like a corridor.

Hmm, I didn't see those edits at all. Thanks for the suggestion, but I've just finished my own (mediocre) remix for the stage.
