So, I recently bought an upgrade for my ram (4GBS 2x2GBs to be precise) and put it on my motherboard. When I turned it on, it failed to boot and made three long(ish) beeps, I then opened my chassis back up to see my ram cards did not fit the holsters for them, my motherboard could not attach DDR3 types of cards, (my old RAM was DDR2) so I replaced the empty slots with the original ones, and now my PC fails to start by beeping three times every time I try to boot. I've tried to fix the problem myself, but no luck. any suggestions?

First, confirm that its a ram issue by looking here and scrolling down to the bios brand that your motherboard has. If it is the ram, you should check to make sure the ram is clean of dust and oil. No matter how clean your hands are, if you touch the gold plating, you WILL leave a small amount of oil which can cause a bad connection. Gently clean the ram with a SMALL amount of robbing alcohol on a q-tip. If there is a large buildup of dust/dirt you can use a clean pencil eraser on the gold plating, but do this extremely gently. You may also need to blow out the ram socket with a can of that compressed air stuff. It works wonders. Attach the straw and position it just above the slot to blow out all the dust. Make sure the ram is oriented the correct way. DDR2 and DDR3 have a notch that is very close to the center, and it is sometimes difficult to be sure it is oriented the right way, so double check. www.build-gaming-computer-guide.com/ddr3-vs-ddr2.htmlFinally, look up the motherboard's manufacturer and read the manual for your motherboard to be certain it supports DDR3. If all else fails, you may have to take it to a professional.

I know for certain that it's the RAM cards... I think I'll just take a break for tonight and do it later
