Well I know how to build a computer, my comp before this pos was (better) and built by me, then my cousin downloaded a fuckload of viruses then the current was bought by my parents as a quick replacement. Ever since they've blamed me for making it that way, so it pree much has to be pre built for me to get it, trust me I've told them I could make better for as much
You do realize that if someone downloads a fuck load of viruses, the computer is not broken? Just format the HDD, and reinstall windows :V
Also, Twi, i7 + HD 6770 is failure. For gaming, get an i5 2500k and you're fine. No games make use of 8 threads, 4 cores is more than enough. And with the money you save on buying an i5 2500k instead of an i7 you can buy a better GPU! Yay!
06hypersonic60, Building a pc is as expensive as you want it to be. Of course you aren't going to get a pc for 100 bucks, but it doesn't have to be $1000
Anywho, $1000,- (Newegg prices) (CAUSE I AM NEVER IN MY WHOLE LIFE GOING TO RECOMMEND AN ALIENWARE)
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k $230,-
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072Great cpu. Great bang for the buck. Great overclocking if you're planning on (I'm recommending you an alternate cpu fan too, as the stock cooler is shit).
Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel $60,-
Case is preference though, as this is what you'll be seeing. This is a decent not too expensive case with 2 fans, other cases are fine though. Just make sure they fit Standard ATX Motherboards. It's better to have as much as possible fans, it's not required though (I only have 1 fan in my pc's case, GPU and CPU overclocked and they run cool enough)
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 LE $120,-
I have same motherboard. Never had any problems with it, sufficient bios options, support for multiple GPU's.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131706RRAM: 8 GB Corsair Vengeance $50,-
8 GB is more than enough ram (4 or 6 GB is enough for most things), but as it's cheap you might as well just get 8 GB. Fast.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green 1 TB $90,- (On sale till 28th Feb)
1 TB is enough space. It's not as fast as a SSD but IMO they're not worth the money. Too much money per GB.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136758CPU Fan: Coolermaster Hyper 212 $30,-
Nice fan, your cpu'll run cooler and you'll be able to overclock it a bit.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065PSU: Coolermaster eXtreme Power Plus 700W $80,-
Plenty power. You won't need this much watt, but better have a bit more than necessary.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171054GPU: HIS IceQ Turbo HD 6970 $340,-
Very fast GPU. You'll be able to stick in a second one later if this isn't enough power anymore.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161382As for the DVD drive, anything will do. Cheapo ones will do fine too. You can use the one from your old pc too.
---total of ~$1000
Might be a bit more expensive if you don't have a DVD drive though.
This computer kicks the alienware's ass.
For comparison, the $1150,- alienware has a slightly faster cpu (i7 2600 instead of i5 2500k) but 1) Overclocking the i5 2500k will make it about as fast as the i7 2600 and 2) You won't notice any difference if you're not rendering a lot. And an overclocked i5 2500k > i7 2600 in games.
The GPU in that alienware is shit compared to the one in the custom pc
