Hello there guys, over the few hours I've been trying to fight this virus called, XP Security 2012, which is a scam that produces fake popups and fake scan results, which evidently it is just a scam to steal your money. It started when I had downloaded a torrent of "The Binding of Isaac" when I got the popup, I immediately knew this was fake so I terminated the process with task manager and started up a full pc scan on AVG... in mean while of doing so, everytime I tried to open a .exe which was Steam, it popped up a message saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file:" at that moment I let the scan finish and restarted my pc, when it was done restarting... it did not launch ANY of my Executables.. nor Steam, Skype, AVG, ZoneAlarm, Hamachi, launched... I'm considering wiping and reloading my pc to get rid of it... the only problem is... I don't have a disc to reinstall xp on... if there is a situation to AVOID this at all costs, please do so in telling me on this thread!

If you didn't wait too long. Goto "System Restore" and pick a resource point before you DL the torrent. This would clear any recent changes to the registry. thus clear the virus

Yeah, pirating is bad, you hear? I know this, but that is not the point... piratebay is not good, I'd usually use bitGAMER.su cause it DOESNT give you viruses

Well, I guess that's the lesson learned. Don't pirate things. I don't' even know what that thing you downloaded is (no need to tell me, whoever).

If you was going to do that : atleast have some good anti software.
Do it allow you to go to task manger and end tasks of the virus program.
Other than that your kinda lucked out

OK, What I would do is boot your computer into safe mode, you keep on hitting the F8 (or some other "F Key") after you hit your power button and you should see the option "boot into safe mode" select that, then once your computer is booted, go to system restore, then select a restore point before you messed up your computer. If this does't work, or something goes wrong with the process, then PM me here, and I can try to help you more.

The virus broke your file associations with the .exe extension. Renaming the file extension to .com may help to use system restore.
