Well I like Sonic unleashed alot and boost was fun. How it's being implemented in future/upcoming sonic games is that I don't like. If you think about playing Sonic unleashed , it''s did have a great amount of platforming + speed and + boost such that was great. The platform was frustrating at times, however me dieing over and over mission levels made it challenging and fun. Sonic unleashed had it fair share of problems but I thought it was going in the right direction story , levels , and gameplay wise. Werehog was ok and fun but the spamming and laziness of sonic team throwing him everywhere was gay and unbalanced.
Not hating on colours "teh colours feel so tight" and Giggs.

Look, in rush it worked. There was platforming, and the boost was fun to use. In every modern title after that(excluding rush adv. and colours ds) its just....there. Its just one of the things you can do as modern. in rush, you could spindash.

It should not be a necessity. It's not required to have a fun Sonic game. To me, boost is a filler to make it seem like he's going very fast, plus seeing that bubble around Sonic just looks like he's a rocket propelled tank. But yes, Sonic Unleashed was unique in having that feature, but it's become very overused and it's getting very old. If you have a fast game, features get old fast, and you have to make a new system. If Sonic Team tried, they could make a new way to feel like the player is actually gaining momentum, and feeling good about getting to that point. Holding 1 button and pressing another does not feel accomplishing. I have a good feeling their newer games will have some variety.

What I would like would be burst mode like in Advance 2 where you boost automatically when you hit a dashpad or if you hit the right speed

perhaps BSU aura trial + the air jets seen in WiiPS2 Unleashed would look better for sonic
it would work well if you do that since in sonic reaches "boost" speed while rolling down something or runs at top speed for long enough, the air jet's would slowly show as he gains more speed.
